The General Direction for Libraries, Cultural Institutes and Copyright, is promoting a project on the “Historical, cultural and religious itineraries valorisation” and the production of an institutional Portal which will be a unified access gate for cultural and tourist contents concerning these routes, starting from the Via Francigena.

To enlarge the informative network connected to the project, the subjects or the institutions which produce cultural contents or initiatives on the theme are invited to send news or bibliographic information to: redazione.francigena@beniculturali.it.

The initiative is part of an articulated institutional design with the goal to preserve, to promote, and to make available the historical, cultural and religious heritage born from age to age on one of the most important pilgrimage ways.
To offer a high visibility to documents, initiatives, projects, and resources involved along this common touristic-cultural and religious route, the portal has the following goals:

• to find out a map of the cultural heritage in the places interested along the route, which, through an articulated trace, with an historical continuity, unified Europe to the Christendom capital and has been recognize by the Council of Europe in the 2004 Great Itinerary as well as the Road to Santiago;
• to involve Regions, Public local Institutions, associations, country operators, dioceses, Council of Europe, for cultural and tourist offers in places of interest (receptivity, wine and food, holy days, folklore, popular traditions, other);
• to locate, to propose, to share guidelines and operative standards;
• to make available cultural and tourist contents in digital format;
• to offer visibility to databases developed by subjects/participants involved or going to be involved to the project, realizing a common informative network.

Within the activities for the technical assistance to the walk-route for the Italian Via Francigena management, the document "Via Francigena - Procedure for the walk- route variations evaluation" has been written with the aim to define the evaluation and "certification" ways of the variations for the walk-route of the Via Francigena.
